New Flooring!

Yes, no more carpet in the dining room!
We now get to eat in the kitchen at the Little Tikes table as a family until this project is finished.
Garrett and Daddy pulling staples...we were so glad when this tedious step was complete!

We are trying to live our lives with the perspective of being happy and content with what we have and not always trying to "keep up with the Jones'". I am so excited though to be getting new flooring in our living and dining rooms! When we bought our house this spring, we knew this would eventually need to be done because carpet (white carpet none the less) simply will not work in the dining room of a family with young children. We came across an add on craigslist that we simply could not pass up...less than a dollar a square foot, new in box, new enough that we can buy more through the manufacturer, the right color to complement the wood work through out the house, and best of all for the exact amount we had saved thus far!

Steven's brother was over for dinner earlier in the week and convinced us that now was as good of a time as any to get started and with that, they began tearing up the carpet. Well, they were only here for a few hours and as much as we appreciated their help and advice, we were left with a lot of work ahead of us! I say "us" but really it has been Steve that has been doing the bulk of the work. All that I can earn credit for is helping to pull the hundreds maybe even thousands of staples out of the sub floor and keeping the boys out of the way (I failed at that a time or two!). Typically, I am not a night person but this week has proved other wise as we have not been to bed earlier than 11:30 since Sunday. And currently, Steven is on this hands and knees laying flooring while the boys sleep (I don't know how they sleep through hammering and sawing) and I here on the computer posting and reading blogs. I think we need to call it a night though, great progress has been made today and lets hope things go as smoothly tomorrow!
