Catch of the day

Last weekend my girlfriend called with an extra ticket to a local pond's fishing derby to see if Garrett would like to go...five bucks and you get a pole, t-shirt, and 45 min. fishing time in a stocked pond and a buddy to fish with...count us in! Steven and Garrett were planned to go by themselves but Mason and I decided to tag along last minute. As things were getting started, one of the attendants gave Mason a pole too-pretty cool considering you had to be 5 to fish! Garrett's friend caught one of the first fish and it was surprisingly big (I think 19 in.). Garrett and Mason then each hooked one, both about a foot long. Mason's catch was quite exciting given that an osprey snatched it out of the water while on the line, dropped it and Mason still reeled it in! Garrett's second catch was the highlight of the day for him. We were down to the final few minutes of fishing time and Steven had told Garrett it would be the final cast of the day...he hooked onto and reeled in a 6.4 lb., 23 1/2 in. trout!!! Now I am no fisherman by any means, but it was the largest fish I have seen caught, not to mention by a 4 1/2 year old! He set the record for the largest fish caught during his session and took home an equipped tackle box, and an especially large fish. Unfortunately we did not have our camera, huge thanks to our new friend Jeff for taking some pictures!
