What a whirlwind of a week we have had! It really started last week with Steven's surgery to repair his ruptured ear drum. Although it took an entire day, the surgery went perfectly and he was able to go home that evening. A week later now and the pain is gone; he just has to deal with a constantly plugged and ringing ear (I think I would take that any day over pain!).
Now on to this week which we NEVER could have made through with out the support of our AMAZING family and friends! As some of you may or may not have known, Mason was born with two webbed fingers. Fortunately for him, it was the simplest of webbing with no bone, ligaments, tendons...to get in the way, simply skin. We were referred to the Shriners Hospital for Children to do the surgery as they have one of the best hand surgeons around, that helped to ease my mind a bit :)
Yesterday was Mason's pre-op appointment and one of my dear friends Sarah offered to watch Garrett while we took Mason to his 2 1/2 hour appointment. Thank you so much Sarah for wearing Garrett out and making a delicious meal for Thursday night...such a HUGE help!!! After we arrived back home, I found this on our door step from another AMAZING FRIEND, who remained anonymous...to whom ever you are, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!

This basket was on our door step Thursday afternoon as a "good luck" basket for Mason and I. It was packed full of goodies to get us through the long day of surgery ahead...how wonderfully thoughtful and helpful! Much love and thanks to you!

This was the delicious pasta rustica that Sarah made for us...yummy!

Mason and Garrett are playing "doctor" with all the supplies Shriner's sent home with Mason Thursday.

Here is Mason's sweet little hand before surgery, a webbing that many didn't even notice until told about...he did not even notice it until the recent appointments...but why would you at two?

Here is our precious little guy in that great big bed figuring out how to "make it work." I was so nervous about how Mason would do in the hospital before surgery since he had to fast from the night before and his surgery was not until noon Friday. I am SO proud of him! It helped that he slept in this morning; I actually had to wake him, so we were able to bathe him and leave. He did not ask to eat or drink once! He just went with the flow of things, playing in the play room, reading books in his room, made the bed go up and down...up and down, and lots of snuggling mom :)

This is Mason post surgery with his great big club of a hand. Surgery went perfectly, thank God! He woke crying of pain but once they gave him more pain meds. he was in much better spirits. We spent the afternoon in and out of sleep snuggled up the entire time which felt so good. He was really ready to eat and drink around the dinner hour and boy did he eat! Once he was able to use the bath room, we were discharged...finally at 8:30 we were on our way home. Thank you, thank you to my sister-in-law Tereasa who took care of both boys during Steve's surgery and now Garrett for Mason's surgery...I don't know what I would do without you! It is now 11:00 and I am off to bed for what I am praying to be a good night sleep for all!
Wow! You are such a brave mom! You handled everything with such rational thinking and calm demeanor. You are my hero! I hope Mason recovers easily and well, sounds like he was a real trooper. Same for Steve! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWow, Nicole what a busy week for your family. I am so happy to hear that everything went well. Thinking of you guys!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new-comer, just wandering around blogland and popped in. I just have to say that those little webbed fingers, they were cute! I know that sounds weird! And I know it had to be fixed and it's good to see he is healing well, although, I have to say, if I was him, I wouldn't want to look at my hand either!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they didn't separate them when he was younger and didn't use his hand as much...?
Anyway, just stopping by, cute boys! I also have 2 boys!
